  • RHETORICAL STATEMENT

    by BRANDON B

i steal away from my mind
i think i think too much all the time
trying to escape myself that’s why i’m
writing this hoping to find me some clarity
do i really know myself or i’m just being what is embedded in me?
girl, they say we found dove in a soapless place
don’t hide yo smile girl flaunt our love baby no disgrace
come on, smile more you got a gorgeous face
i can stare into your eyes for hours, my saving grace
arms wide open only for you to embrace
    forever my love
    no one above
    always thinking of you
no one can ever 1-up you
    us together somewhat like Adjacent
    my love for you?
    not a question,
    it’s a rhetorical statement.

  • REBORN NATURE

    by KYLA

The dead sparrow in its gray topcoat of feathers, lies on the light gray, cemented road. The song from its beak silenced. Its shiny, silky wings unstretched. Its wide-open eyes staring without seeing the sky above. Its soul seeking the white, fluffy clouds and golden gates; leading to a castle made of dazzling sunflowers.

What saint or angel carries the small sparrow’s soul? Most of all, what burdens its heart of crystal gold? The weight of the heart clings to the concrete, while the soul so lite floats away; seeking a destination where death is a beginning.

In eternal paradise, the once dead sparrow flies freely; like a dove, here for peace and love. We once sang, “His eye is on the sparrow, so I know he watches me.” Through the sparrow’s light blue eyes, he searches for his lost heavenly halo.

His spirit wings fly above the cotton candy clouds, the promise of the halo in a distant glow.

The heavenly sparrow soars wide and long, searching for his lost song. Inside the glow an angel speaks, “Head back to the living you have more songs to tweet.”  The risen sparrow, now a golden dove; sings sweet music from above.

White wings skim green trees, the reincarnated bird rides the breeze. Its beauty strikes the dark world causing the golden sun to shine, and he sees another dove on the horizon line. His lost song is found in his new true love. Wing to wing fly the two love doves. In their new fond love they find the once lost halo. In their newfound love they find the meaning of rebirth.

Baptized in the love song they both sing, their heavenly rebirth lights the world. We should learn from the dove the true meaning of love. That is why doves represent peace, so that all terrible violence will cease; and that’s why love is peaceful and sweet, love conquers anger in one heartbeat.

Through their heartbeats and their true love, they sing their enchanted melody from above. And that’s the meaning of the dove, for one’s power and another’s True Love.

  • HOW TO MEND A BROKEN HEART

    by KIYLA

In my eyes I say all is fair in love and war.
So you mend it by getting revenge.
Revenge is a dish best served cold especially
When you are a feline living in a canine’s territory.
This feline is cute and soft but her heart
Is filled with stone. Letting her guard
    Down once but never again.
    My friends: mostly canines
Had to step on their tails and flick their noses
As they cried and yelped in my ears for my forgiveness
    No longer wanting my friendship.
No need for asking for friendship.
To think my best friend is now my enemy.
Revenge is my best friend. But they were diamonds.
Fake Diamonds and I didn’t notice I was wearing them.
    Flashing them to the crowd.

  • VISITING DEATH

    by SHAWN

    In The Dead Courtyard
    The Cracked Bird Bath
    Is Filled With Dirty Water

    I Walk To One Corner
    Looked Down To The Ground,
    See A Rock
With The Letter “S” In Peeling Blue Paint

    The Ghost From The Tree,
Flipping My Pages From Side To Side.
The Pages Repeat What My Grandma Always Said.

    He’s As Sweet As Candy

  • DEAR, WHOEVER

    By ANAIS

    Let there be happiness,
Let the tears from my face fall for the last time.
I bowed my head again tonight,
Just like I do every night.
I cry, trying to grasp my breath,
It’s the same routine I do every day.
Why pray to someone I don’t believe in?
Who is this person I’m speaking to?
I close my eyes and whisper into the darkness.
My hands clenched to the side of my bed.
All the bad things begin to rush through my head.
Please, I pray, let him come home sober.
The one thing I always wish for,
Is the thing I know that will never happen.
    Please, whoever you are.
    Allow me to become stronger.
    Distract me from addiction.
Let me smile for joy and not pain.
    Let me know she’s okay and she’s still here;
Tell her and Grandpa I said, “I love you.”
Tell my twin siblings I wish I could have met them.
Show light onto my brother before he turns into me.
Keep those who are in danger safe.
    Stop the pain from yesterday.
Help me forget the enemies and scars from the past.
I don’t know who to talk too, so I’ll pray to you.
    Whoever you are…
