One of our favorite fitness apps of all time, the Nike Training Club App, is now available for Android smartphones.
This FREE app from Nike provides users with a variety of full body workouts based on fitness levels and fitness goals. From 15 minute “get focused” workouts to 45 minute “get strong” workouts, there is something for everyone. It even includes picture and video based instructions in case you don’t know how to do a particular exercise.
Another quick and easy meatless Monday meal, Farro Salad with Roasted Mushrooms and Parmesan. If you haven’t cooked with farro before, it is a type of grain with a nutty flavor and slightly chewy texture.
Find the recipe and directions at Food52.com, a beautiful website with wonderful recipes.
Need some new ideas for breakfast? Try this recipe for Steel Cut Oatmeal from the food blog Two Peas and Their Pod. Complete directions can be found by clicking the picture below.
While this recipe may take a little more preparation than your usual routine, it is well worth it! This recipe also calls for the use of a creme brulee torch, however, the same effect can be achieved by sticking the oats under the broiler for a few minutes.
Because steel cut oats take a little longer to cook than the usual quick oats, here’s another recipe for overnight steel cut oats that use the crock pot for a short cut.
Setting goals for the new year? Here are my tips for setting and accomplishing goals this year:
1) Don’t make a year long goal. I always recommend making 30 day goals. 30 days is plenty of time to complete a goal and it keeps your momentum going. Plus, it prevents burnout.
2) Make a very specific goal. Bad goal: I am going to save more for retirement. Good goal: I am going to increase my retirement contribution by 5% this month. Your goals need to be quantifiable and realistic.
3) Establish an emotional connection to your goal. If your 30 day goal is to contribute $1,000 more to your daughter’s college fund, take a moment to think about your daughter’s future. When the choice comes down to a $100 steak dinner and your daughter’s happiness the decision is obvious. An emotional connection to your goal will help you overcome roadblocks.
