The Bible and Music

While listening to Martin Luther, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”, I understood the tone of the hymn even though the sung language was not one that I understood. I think that is what makes music so powerful, and is a trait that Cantor Sharon shared last week. Music has the ability to create a feeling, so when there is a shared experience of singing or listening with a large group of people like in the church where this hymn was recorded, I think that collective amplifies the tone behind the hymn.

Psalm 43 tells of God protecting and providing a place of hope for his people. I think that feeling of hope and trust is what was carried through the music.
