The Bible and Music

Cantor Giora Sharon

I thought Giora Sharon was an incredibly interesting person with an even more interesting career. I had never heard of a cantor until this class. I found it fascinating that a cantor is a revered and distinguished position within the Jewish faith. This being said, I understand its importance. I’m sure it is a challenging job to set the tone of religious events and ceremonies. I’m sure the people would be very hard to please at times. The actual music was more beautiful that I expected it to be. I’ve never been a fan of church music that I had heard, but I rather enjoyed the pieces that Sharon played for us. I think the pieces he provided seemed more tradition or sacred sounding (if that’s possible?) than the music I have heard from other traditions.
