The Bible and Music

I think that because the story of David is such a long narrative, it provides composers and musicians with many scenes to draw inspiration from. This is why so many musical compositions have been composed about David, aside from his historical influence on the religious community of Israel. David also wrote many of the psalms included in the Bible, so it’s possible that while a piece of music may not be about David, it may be inspired indirectly by David.

David’s narrative is also extremely emotional, going alongside of David being an emotional, as well as a complex, character. Scenes about David range from David and Jesse, David and Goliath, David and Bathsheba, and David with his Children. Each is a story in their own right, which is how musicians are able to draw inspiration from a variety of different moment, and have the main story be about David.
