The Bible and Music

I do not know much about Exodus except what I’ve learned from the DreamWorks movie The Prince of Egypt. Exodus has a lot of dark characteristics. There is oppression, death, slavery, and violence…but there is also hope. The Prince of Egypt was always one of my favorite movies growing up (& is on Netflix if you’re interested). I watched this movie the other day but tried to focus on the music. I think the music tried to reflect the sounds that we would hear in the music of Egypt/Israel. The music is always very hopeful with songs like, “When You Believe”. There are also darker songs like “The Ten Plagues”, “Cry”, “Death of the First Born”, that reflect the tragic elements of Exodus. It’s a great movie with great music. Check it out.
