I watched various parts of St. John Passion. I was surprised it was so long and intricate. It is a story told through music, with a director and singers assigned various roles and everything. The incredibly strong voices of the singers worked with the orchestra and the extensive choir to create a very emotional telling of the story. While the individual singers sing for the different roles and play specific parts, the choir as a unit drives the story forward and adds emotion to it. The choir is massive and I think it is the size of it, all of the voices working together, that allow the story to have such emotional depth.
