The Bible and Music

Final Project

For my final project I recorded a video of myself playing  “Hallelujah”  on the piano. My favorite part of the class this semester was the intersection of popular music and the Bible. The intersection intrigued me, especially once I worked on the scavenger hunt project and found more examples of music that was not explicitly Gospel or Christian music, but more in the secular sphere of the music industry. I found a beginner’s sheet music on”Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen, a personal favorite of mine that makes multiple allusions to the Bible and God while remaining in the popular music industry category. I practiced the melody over the course of a few days, bringing me back to my 5th grade days when I was forced to participate in piano lessons for a brief stint. However, it was fun to tinkle the ivories and play a classic rock melody for the class.
