In a major trade that could change the balance of power in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and Utah Jazz completed a three-team deal. The trade sends Luka Doncic to the Lakers and Anthony Davis to the Mavericks.

Trade Details

  • Lakers receive: Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris (from Mavericks)
  • Mavericks receive: Anthony Davis, Max Christie, Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick
  • Jazz receive: Jalen Hood-Schifino, Clippers’ 2025 second-round pick, Mavericks’ 2025 second-round pick

Mavericks Focus on Defense

According to league sources, Dallas initiated the trade discussions. Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison explained why they moved their star player.

“I believe that defense wins championships,” Harrison told ESPN. “Getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future.”

The bigger question for Mav’s fans is will this pay off? A team like the Mavericks doesn’t have superstar players wanting to come to their franchise as often as the Lakers or Celtics. This makes most ask themselves why give up a superstar foreign player who is as loyal as it gets to a team in the same conference you will most definitely see on your road to a championship for years to come.

Lakers’ Excitement Over Doncic

The Lakers’ front office, ownership, and coaching staff were all in agreement on the trade. They see Doncic as a generational talent who can lead the franchise for years.

“Luka is a one-of-a-kind, young global superstar,” Lakers GM Rob Pelinka said. “His killer instincts and commitment to winning championships will be a driving force for the team. We will relentlessly build a roster around Coach Redick’s vision and are excited for the future.”

This blockbuster deal sets up the Lakers for a new era and the Mavericks into a win-now scenario, with each team hoping their big move will lead to championship success.
