The MLB regular season has begun with the MLB Tokyo Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs. This incredible series not only marked the beginning of the 2025 season, but also a great opportunity to showcase how sports can unify global communities. The Tokyo series broke records and had amazing crowd turnouts. The defending World Series Champion and NL MVP Shohei Ohtani made his 2025 debut at home with a towering home run in game two. The Dodgers’ ace, Yoshinobu Yamamoto made his first MLB start in Japan.
The two-game set averaged over 24 million views per game- game one brought in 25 million views which broke the record in Japan. Over 450,000 fans attended the MLB Tokyo Series Fan Fest- which was the largest fan event in MLB history. During each of the six games, the Tokyo Dome was sold out.
Overall, the Tokyo series was a successful way to start the 2025 regular season with the Dodgers beating the Cubs 6-3 at the Tokyo Dome.
