With the first 2 rounds of March Madness in the books, let’s take a dive into some of the players who contributed heavily to their teams success, and could be on the early polls for Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
Clayton extended his outstanding regular season play into the tournament, scoring 23 points in each of Florida’s first 2 wins, including 2 huge three’s in Florida’s comeback win over the defending national champs UCONN. Clayton will need to continue to use his scoring ability to help Florida in their quest for a national title.
LJ Cryer – Houston
Cryer had one of the best scoring performances of the tournament so far, leading Houston with 30 points with 6 three’s in their 81-76 victory over Gonzaga.
Caleb Love – Arizona
Although Love had a quiet night in Arizona’s win against Akron, Love came through for Arizona when they needed him most, scoring 29 points in to help his team overcome a 15 point deficit to defeat Oregon 87-83. Love will face off against former rival Duke in the Sweet 16, where Arizona will need another big scoring performance from Love to compete against the juggernauts from Durham.
Trey Kaufman-Renn – Purdue
While flying under the college basketball radar for most of the year, Kaufman-Renn has been quietly putting up some of the best and most efficient performances of the tournament so far. Kaufman-Renn has totaled 43 points and 23 points in Purdue’s two wins over High Point and Mcneese, and will look to continue this dominance in the paint against #1 seed Houston.
Although there have been plenty of great performances from players all across the tournament, these 3 guys have truly put up special performances to help lead their teams to victory. While these 3 have stood out, there is plenty of time left for players to make themselves household names for years to come, and put their name in the Most Outstanding Player conversations.
