Western Peace

What do we sacrifice to get the American dream? Peace and tranquility. In class today we talked about some benefits that we have in the U.S and how other countries view us as a glorious place where dreams come true. But what I think the reality turns out to be is much different than what most people coming here expect. I shared my views in class but wanted to elaborate a little more on this idea. We talked about how some countries have the luxury of not paying for school or doctor visits as it comes out of society’s pocket and how that differs from the American way. And how in some countries I would never have the ability to be in school let alone be able to share my opinion with so many people on topics like this which is why I felt the need to share a little more.

Don’t get me wrong I am in no way trying to say that the U.S is not a great place to live or bash on the fact that I have the freedoms I do but I strongly believe that it comes at a cost. With this American dream in mind when people come, they believe that they will be able to find a job and provide for their family. Which in some cases is more than they could do back where they came from. However, in this competitive, never stopping, high standard of a country they are going to realize very fast that this does not come without the price of their peace. Being in this type of industrialized country causes anxiety and nervousness. People often have to decide between work and family, which puts one area at risk of falling apart. While many people think money can solve everything, does it really? Can it cover the cost of losing your peace of mind? This is really just perspective and you do have the ability to find your peace I just think that it is very challenging to do so in this busy world we live in.
