The Reference Department will be suspending our usage study for the summer since the results will not be very meaningful. As of May 1, putting used Reference books on the cart before shelving will not be necessary. We will probably be starting it up again as of September 1.
Logging Reference TRANSACTIONS will still continue throughout the summer, even though the desk will not be staffed. If you pick up a call to the Reference Desk or if you answer a reference-type question in your office or around the library (including at the Circulation Desk), please log it at \\ben\library\Reference\Reference Tracking.xls or send me an IM or email and I’ll log it for you.
Thanks very much.
Scott

There has been a history of difficulty reaching the Help Desk when technology issues arise in the evenings.
The official Help Desk hours are:
Monday – Thursday: 7:30am to 10:00pm
Friday: 7:30am to 6:00pm
Saturday & Sunday: 1:00pm to 10:00pm
If you get voice mail at the Help Desk, please LEAVE A MESSAGE with callback number. If you don’t hear back within 1/2 hour, call again. If nobody answers, you should call Joe Ader on his personal cell phone: 847-8835.
Thanks.
Scott
The Reference Department has set up a new printing station near the two printers. This table is for storing print jobs that were not immediately picked up and is also for equipment like the three-hole punch, stapler, heavy-duty stapler (40-90 pages), and tray for scrap paper. The recycle bin and garbage can are right next to this table, so all your printing needs can be handled in one place, while at the same time helping eliminate the crowds digging through the piles at the printers.
As always, print jobs that are not picked after one hour will be recycled (2-sided printing) or put in the scrap paper tray (1-sided printing).
The lab computers have been occasionally getting an error saying that the “maximum registry size” needs to be increased. Information Resources is working on this problem and trying to fix it. The latest phase is an error message saying there is a VBScript runtime error in accessing a file called delprofiles_lab.vbs. IR is also aware of this and the reporting of this error to them is helping them narrow down the problem.
In the meantime, if you see either of these errors, please just click the OK button and everything will proceed as normal. It’s an inconvenience but it’s not disabling the computers in any way. Hopefully the problem will be fixed soon.
