Reference Printing Revisited

Just an FYI that our main Reference printer started jamming last night. This morning I found a torn piece of paper still in the side where the paper comes up. (NB: it’s important to make sure that, if a piece of paper tears while you’re removing it that you find EVERY PIECE. Even a tiny fragment in the right place can cause jams.) After clearing jams a couple times, it started working fine and did so for over an hour. Then it jammed again. When I cleared that jam and it jammed a second time, it finally gave me a service code. I’ve alerted Help Desk and given them all the necessary information.

Hopefully someone will be here early this afternoon to get it fixed. In the meantime, the other printer is working fine.

Reference Updates

The computer in Reference with a scanner attached has been replaced. It is now a new computer that’s the same model as the rest of the Reference “lab.” But it’s still separate from that image and still does have the scanner attached. I worked with it Wednesday night and got it configured, so now it’s safe to say that we have a working scanner again.

Also, the Student Reference Assistants (and anyone else working the Reference Desk if they want) will be shelf-reading the Reference Collection over the course of the semester. We have a pink slip of paper that shows where the shelf reading ended last time, so others can know where to start. Please leave this slip sticking out wherever you may find it (unless you’re doing some shelf reading). 🙂

We’ve added LCEasy to the Reference Desk computer. It’s a program that helps people learn (or refresh) how to shelve books properly according to LC Classification. Brad has been using this with the Circ students and now our Reference students will have the same program. They should be working their way through it before starting shelf reading. If you’re interested in testing your own shelving skills or refreshing your knowledge of proper LC book order, feel free to use the program on the Reference Desk computer (but not during our normal hours of service, please).

Tonight I had a question about how late the C-Club is open. It took some looking around on the Butler website, but I finally found a page called Atherton Services – http://www.butler.edu/involvement/?pg=708 which said:

Food favorites such as Noble Romans Express, Grille Works, Freshens, and Montague’s Deli make the C-Club a popular hangout.
Hours: Mon-Fri 7:30am-10:30pm, Sat 8am-10:30pm, Sun 11am-10:30pm.

Now we know. 🙂

Scanner Computer Down

The computer in Reference that has the scanner attached is DOWN. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Apparently the problems that showed up during the summer are still reoccurring. We just might have to get a whole new machine. For the near future, the machine is unavailable and so is the scanner. I’ll pass along updates as I get them.
