Domestic Violence Hotline

Watch for Warning Signs of Relationship Violence

The Basics: Overview

It can be hard to know if your relationship is headed down the wrong path. While it’s not always easy to spot the warning signs of relationship violence, there are things you can do to recognize unhealthy relationships and get help before they become violent.

If you think your partner might be controlling or abusive, it’s important to:

  • Trust your feelings. If something doesn’t seem right, take it seriously.
  • Learn the warning signs of someone who might become controlling or violent.
  • Get help. Call the National Domestic Violence HotlineExternal Link: You are leaving healthfinder.gov at 1-800-799-SAFE
  • (1-800-799-7233) to connect with local resources in your area.

If your partner is controlling or abusive, it’s better to get help right away. Controlling or violent relationships usually get worse over time.

Remember: if your partner hurts you, it’s not your fault.

Suicide: The Ripple Effect – A Speaking Event

DESCRIPTION

Kevin Hines, mental health advocate, award-winning global speaker and documentary filmmaker will share his story of survival and tremendous will to live. Kevin is one of a very few people to survive a jump from the Golden Gate Bridge. At the age of 19, two years after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, his anguish was so intense that he thought jumping from the bridge was his only option. He instantly regretted his action. Kevin’s story is a remarkable testament to the strength of the human spirit and a reminder for us to love the life we have.

Kevin, an inspiring and motivation speaker, has dedicated his life to saving lives by spreading the message of hope, recovery and mental wellness. Through his work he promotes the tremendous ripple effects of advocacy, inspiration, and hope that are helping millions heal and stay alive.

Centerstone and Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation have partnered to enable Kevin to share his story of survival and advocacy with students, parents, community leaders, emergency service personnel and area residents.

Kevin’s documentary Suicide: The Ripple Effect will be screened on Tuesday, October 9th at Yes Cinema. Due to limited seating we recommend registering on the documentary film Eventbrite page. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/suicide-the-ripple-effect-documentary-film-tickets-49230497744

54 Surprising Ways to Use Leftover Apples

Here’s some shocking news: Apples are good for us! The plump little fruits are a good source of vitamin C and fiber, and have been linked to reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, certain cancers, and asthma. Add in the flavor, and we can understand why it’s easy to go hog wild at a farmer’s market or orchard.

But then you end up with more raw apples than a belly can handle in one sitting (or even several) and run out of ideas for how to use them.

 Add them to sandwiches.

PB&A is the new PB&J. Apples also go great with turkey, Swiss, and mustard on whole-grain bread.

 Make a gratin.

The round fruit will be barely recognizable after mixing it with eggs (for a healthy dash of protein) and popping it in the broiler.

Add them to pancakes.

This recipe had us at “pancakes”. The apples give the ’cakes a texture similar to potato latkes and add sweetness without all those refined sugars.

Add them to chicken.

It might not look very appetizing, but this recipe tastes good and gives the body a dose of protein and antioxidants, to boot.
