The Butler men’s golf team sits in second after the first round of the Butler Spring Invitational at their home course, Highland Country Club.
The invitational includes six other teams along with the Bulldogs including three schools from the state of Indiana: IUPUI, Valparaiso University, Fort Wayne. Ohio, Oakland and Detroit Mercy round out the eight team field and Ball State sent individuals but did not field a whole team.
The Bulldogs sit just four shots behind IUPUI who finished the first round with a team score of 2-under par. Junior Pat Allgeier and Raymond Sullivan led with 1-under par 69’s in the first round. The pair sit in a tie for second individually.
Michael Casino carded a first round 71 while Logan Sabins and Nick Williams both shot a 3-over par 73.
Due to hosting the event, the Bulldogs are fielding two teams for the invitational. Butler’s other starting lineup sits in fourth place with a first round total of 11-over par led by Augie Hartnagel who sits in a tie for 7th after a 71 to start the tournament.
The day belonged to IUPUI’s Nick Bienz. The senior carded a first round 64 and is leading the field by six shots. It was his fifth round in the 60’s this season for the Jaguars.
Due to weather, The tournament was shortened to 36 holes with the final 18 being played Tuesday, April 2. Teams will begin play with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
