This past Saturday, March 2nd, the Butler Women’s basketball team suffered a tough loss against Marquette 74-52 during their senior night and last regular season game.

Karsyn Norman opened up the game strong with a 3-point jumper. Marquette’s Liza Karlen impressed with 20 points despite foul trouble early on. Despite a balanced scoring effort from Butler with 10 players contributing, the Dawgs struggled with an abundance of turnovers that plagued their performance, with 20 compared to Marquette’s seven. At the end of the first quarter, Butler was down 21-17.

The second quarter started out rough, with a foul on Kent and Strande, multiple missed Free Throws, and a turnover. The Bulldogs continued to show resilience, closing the first half strong with a 10-0 run. They finished the half two points behind, standing at 35-33.

However, Marquette’s dominance in the third quarter, outscoring Butler and taking a 13-point lead, sealed the outcome. Notable efforts came from Ari Wiggins, Rachel Kent, and Jordan Meulemans for Butler. Marquette’s accuracy from the field and beyond the arc played a significant role in their victory.

Next up, Butler faces Providence in the BIG EAST Tournament at 11 AM on March 8th. Stay tuned for updates.
