This past Saturday, Butler Women’s Basketball celebrated their Senior night against the UCONN Huskies. It was an exciting and lively atmosphere because it was the first game in Butler Women’s Basketball history that sold out. All 9,100 tickets were sold to celebrate these special seniors including Ari Wiggins, Kilyn McGuff, Caroline Strande, and Sydney Jaynes. Although the Bulldogs lost to the Huskies 86-47, it was a night worth celebrating.
Senior Night celebrates not only their accomplishments as basketball players but also their academic and personal accomplishments. These players have dedicated so much time, effort, and energy to balancing being a college-level athlete, maintaining a good academic record, and growing as a person. Needless to say, these seniors have dedicated their lives for the last four years of lives to their prosperous futures.
It’s a bittersweet feeling to be at the end of the road but senior point guard Ari Wiggins sums it up perfectly, “Knowing that my college career, both academically and athletically, has come to an end evokes a complex mix of emotions. On one hand, I feel a deep sense of happiness and excitement as I embark on a new journey in life. This transition opens up fresh opportunities and experiences that I eagerly anticipate. On the other hand, there’s a poignant sense of sadness as I reflect on the significant role that college basketball has played in my life. It has been more than just a sport; it has shaped my identity and allowed me to forge incredible connections with remarkable individuals. The friendships and memories I’ve made will always hold a special place in my heart.”
