The 2025 MLB season is just a few weeks away. Now, we will look at the teams in the AL East. The teams in the AL East are the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and Tampa Bay Rays.

Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles finished the 2024 season in second place in the division with a record of 91-71 (a winning percentage of .562). Ended up making the postseason but falling short, losing 2 games to the Kansas City Royals. In the offseason, the team lost some key pieces, with Corbin Burnes moving on to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Burnes posted a 2.92 ERA during the 2024 season. He was credited with 15 wins and 9 loses. Another piece to the Orioles offense that moved on was Anthony Santander going to a division rival in the Toronto Blue Jays. The Orioles should still stay optimistic with a core of players that they still have. Jackson Holiday, Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Colton Cowser to have a strong season. Look for a new comer in Tyler O’Neil to help the young players out this season. The Orioles look to get back to the postseason in 2025.

Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox finished the 2024 season in third place right behind the Orioles. Red Sox sat right at .500 with a record of 81-81. The Red Sox added a high end closer in Aroldis Chapman. In 2024, he was with the Pittsburgh Pirates and had a 3.79 ERA and 14 saves. He is known for lighting up the radar gun with pitches getting over 100mph. On the offense side of things, the Red Sox got a top free agent with Alex Bergman agreeing on a 3 year, $120 million dollar contract. He spent 9 years with the Houston Astros and has post season experiences when he was with the Astros. He has two World Series rings when he was with the Astros, winning it in 2017 and 2022. Some other players to look out for are Trevor Story, Walker Buehler (who comes over from the 2024 World Series champions the Los Angeles Dodgers), Garrett Crochet.

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees finished the 2024 season going to the World Series and ultimately losing to the LA Dodgers in 4 games. In the offseason, the Yankees saw a key piece of their offense head to crosstown rival in Juan Soto. It was a disappointing lost but that did not hold the Yankees back in pursuing other free agents. The team saw many additions to their starting rotation and bullpen along with their offense. The additions were Max Fried, Devin Williams, Fernando Cruz, Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt. With a sour taste in their mouths look for the Yankees for a bounce back season. The ultimate goal is to get back to the World Season and winning it all.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays finished the 2024 season last place with a record of 74-88 (.457 winning percentage). It was not their year when you have a record like that. However, they did do some things in the offseason to try and make their team better. One key addition that they did make was bringing in Max Scherzer. In 2024, Max was with the Texas Rangers and posted a 3.95 ERA. However, Max missed some time due to some injuries that he sustained during the season. He and the Blue Jays hope he can stay healthy for the 2025 season.

Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays finished the 2024 season in fourth place and with a record of 80-82 (.494 winning percentage). This season will be a very interesting season for the Rays. Just a few months ago during hurricane season, the Rays home (Tropicana Field) the roof was damaged due to the high winds from the hurricane. Due to the damage the Rays will have to play their home games at the Yankees spring training complex (George M. Steinbrenner Field). Now, looking at their roster the team added two pieces to their offense in Danny Jansen and Eloy Jimenez. When you look at the teams starting rotation Shane McClanahan is coming back from Tommy John Surgery that sidelined him in 2024. With everything that is happening to this organization it will be interesting where the Rays will finish in 2025.
