0Today I started using Panopto for the first time! I had no prior experience and wanted to have a general idea about the application since I will be helping out with some Panopto training sessions this week and next! I did some online research and watched some how-to videos on the Panopto website. This helped me to become familiar with the basic uses and functionality available in Panopto. Then I started reading through classroom mediation documents on Moodle. I learned the basics about Smart Boards, and computer workstations located in Butler classrooms.

So Far…
Looking at the big picture it’s easy to see I have come a long way from when I began. Starting out in August, I must admit I wasn’t really sure what to expect or what I was doing. Of course I knew the basics and expected to be sitting at a lot of computers, but Information Commons has offered me so much more than that. So far I have gotten to learn about so much more software than I could have imagined. Getting to play with Dreamweaver (as frustrating as it was) and learning about the other programs supported by the CAT is invaluable information, and I feel lucky to have received it. In addition to learning about the software, I got to learn about the library. This not only benefited me, but allowed me to do my job more effectively.
Memory
A memorable experience for me was definitely helping a professor Skype into his Spanish class. When I got to assignment, I hadn’t realized that the classroom the class met in was set up with a camera and microphone built in. Having never worked with classroom equipment before, this presented quite the struggle. However, along with the language department head, we figured out the classroom and best way to assist the professor in teaching his class.
Tips
- Primo is your best friend!! At the library, it really is the most helpful tool.
- Take the time to fully listen to a person’s problem before just jumping in with an idea. If you are really stumped on how to help them, refer them to someone rather than waste their time.
- When working at the library, make sure you have libstats, the printing release, and the butler library open at all times. It’s also a good idea to warm up the register program.
Strengths
I have come to learn that designing posters is my strength! An area I need to work on is fully understanding, and going over certain programs within the CAT. Although I do have a basic understanding and working knowledge of almost everything, I think to be more of an asset, there are still some things I can learn.
Passion
Along with figuring out my strength in designing posters came my love for making them! Getting to work on all the IC posters and women’s history month project and special things the library needs help with was very exciting. I spent most of the first semester learning about things, so having people come to me this semester looking for help with Photoshop and posters was a very fulfilling experience.
Goal
My goal for myself within the IC is to develop more of my technological skills and to become an overall asset to the program.

0I finished my iMovie video. I think I put it in the correct folder, but I was not 100% positive. I also took the iMovie quiz. Hope everyone has a good spring break!

0Today at the library I dealt with a small color printing problem, but Tim was able to help me out, and entered in transactions for colored printing from the past few days. Then at CAT I finished my classroom mediation done after being able to use a Smartboard, and was working on Excel when I discovered a new Photoshop technique for text, so I had to try it out, and it looks pretty cool. Have a wonderful spring break!!!
