New Cardboard Sculptures from PCA Students

As part of the PCA (Perspectives in the Creative Arts) classes in the Art + Design program, Butler University students get to experiment with art making practices from painting to sculpture, drawing to photography. Intended for students with majors outside of the arts, the PCA class is often the first opportunity for those students to make art.

My PCA students recently completed their second large project in the class. The challenge I presented to them was to make a sculpture out of cardboard that responded to the theme of ‘scale.’ They might make a small model of something, enlarge a tiny object, or make an identical 1:1 copy; as long as scale was relevant. Below you’ll see some of the results, which range from whimsical to serious, precise to expressionist.
