Welcome to Spring Semester 2014!

The so-called Polar Vortex can’t stop Butler’s Art Program! Fall semester was extremely productive. Students in the Art + Design major developed their abilities in a wide range of media. In Art107: Drawing + 2D design students learned traditional techniques and then shifted to technology-based production at the end of the semester.

ART NOW at the end of the semester was deemed the “best exhibition yet” by Butler students, staff, faculty and members of the larger Indianapolis community.

Spring 2014 promises more exciting opportunities! In February the Art Program partners with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra for a project on Triptychs–students whose work is chosen will receive terrific exposure and will receive compensation. Also in February, students will gain valuable experience by helping to curate and hang a gigantic exhibition in Clowes Hall: the Scholastic Arts Awards. In March another iteration of ART HERE will occur at the Annex gallery, with students showing their work from ART210 Process: Theory + Practice, ART312 Design: History + Theory and ART306, Interactive: Digital Art + Web Design. April will be jam-packed with Art Program goodness! Early in the month there will be a workshop with a Tibetan Artist; in the middle of the month students will participate in a juried show at the Schrott Art Center in conjunction with ARTSFEST: Fairy Tales + Physics and an exhibition at the Undergraduate Research Conference. ART NOW will take place in the Reilly Room on April 22 and 23; then shortly thereafter our graduating seniors will have their work from ART 411 Method: Exhibition + Thesis on display at ART AT THE ANNEX.
