Introduction

In 2015, approximately 12.9% of Indiana’s adult population were living with diabetes and as this percentage continues to grow, intensive insulin clinics are needed to manage complex insulin dependent patients.[1] As drug experts, pharmacists can optimize insulin therapy and provide patient education in order to help patients reach their target HgbA1C.  This clinic will require a trained endocrine pharmacist who completed at least an Ambulatory Care PGY2 and is certified as a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) or equivalent and BC-ADM (Board Certified-Advanced Diabetes Management) within two years of hire.  These credentials will help ensure the knowledge required to effectively manage this patient population. This service will focus on patients using U-500 insulin, insulin pumps, and/or continuous glucose monitoring.
