Today, some of our class along with other classes from School 60 went to a presentation on Good Touch/Bad Touch. The police officer that spoke asked the children to tell their families about what they heard today so tonight or tomorrow might be a good night to discuss what they heard while at the presentation.
Nobody today brought up making any mail or anything about mail today so tomorrow I think that I might set out the envelopes during our free choice to see if they want to use them. We will see if it is a sustained interest or if it something that they were just interested in a couple of days.
Yesterday we started a new part of Math Workshop! We had three story problems that we needed to solve, and yesterday we used some sorting bears to figure them out. Today, we used unifix cubes. The children did awesome today thinking and using the tools to help them solve the problem! We talked about how some children used one way to answer the problem while other children used another method. Tomorrow we will use another tool that they can use to solve problems. Next week we will start using our Math Workshop notebook where we will be using various tools to help us solve problems.

So on Friday we wrote a letter to Mr. Kidd (the head custodian) thanking him for fixing our outlet. They loved writing the letter, and then we put it in our mailbox today.
Today, during Free Choice, some friends decided to write letters to their families, and we are actually going to mail them! How many days will it take to get the mail to each person’s house?
I am excited to see where this idea of mail and sending mail goes!!

Good evening!
Today, we played an extension of a game we learned on Tuesday. We partnered up with a friend, and each friend got a stick of unifix cubes (10 pieces in each stick). Then the children had to take turns rolling a dice that had 1, 2, or 3 on it. When they got a red number they had to add unifix cubes to complete the set of unifix cubes. When they got a green number they could take it away. The first person to get rid of their unifix cubes won! I was partnered with Saa, and we were laughing because we could not get rid of our unifix cubes…we kept getting the red numbers. When we discussed with the whole group what happened while we were playing, a lot of the other partners had the same issue so we are going to try to play tomorrow and see if our luck changes! 🙂
Here is a photo of a story book that Madeline P. made during Free Choice today. It is about Cars 2, and she has four chapters to it. She was so proud of the words she added and the creative manner she made her story book!

Today was a really good day. We started our Reader’s Workshop stations yesterday, and the children seem so engaged in them! Here are some pictures for youto see what the stations are. One station is putting everyone’s name in ABC order.Another station is using paint sticks to attach a picture to the last word of the sentence. Then, the children can write the sentence after they are done. The third station playing memory with environmental print. The fourth station is rolling a letter dice, and then the children graph the letter they rolled. The fifth station is where the children cut out letters out of a magazine and then they add it to a big piece of chart paper with each letter of the alphabet. The last station is playing Starfall on the computers.
Enjoy the pictures!
