The kids listen to a story by one of their favorite authors: David Shannon. It was read by our librarian, Mrs. Dennis.
We had a very exciting first adventure today! We made our first visit to the library. 🙂 Mrs. Dennis, our school librarian read a book from one of our FAVORITE authors, David Shannon. The kids were so excited because it was one that we had not read yet. I can honestly say David Gets In Trouble was a hit! We will continue going to the library weekly on Wednesdays, but by request of Mrs. Dennis the library books are going to stay at school. The kids have many times during the day that they are able to read them and many have taken advantage of this already!

Max is working hard to hold the downward facing dog pose.
Selah is deep in concentration in the downward facing dog.
We are well into our yoga now. A few weeks ago I wrote about how we were breathing deeply and relaxing. While we are mastering that, we are now learning different poses. We have learned tall mountail, child’s pose, downward facing dog, tree pose, cat pose, lion pose, and so much more!! The kids are really getting into this and seem to relax into the poses more and more each day. We have even had a few fall asleep!

I know a few days ago I posted about trains. Well….in true form we have changed our mind! While our mini investigation on trains went well, the kids are getting very excited about recycling. We started chatting about it last week when someone asked, “Why don’t we have recycling?” I responded with, “That is a great question! What can we do about this?” Since then we have been discovering a little bit more about the process of recycling and what we can do in our school. At this point we know that we want to start a recycling program in our school, but we are trying to figure out how to do that. I know we will be asking for parent help at some point so keep reading our blog to find out more!
David made a sign that said, "We want to recycle!"
During Free Choice, Sophia was very excited about recycling. She drew herself recycling outside!
As if that was not enough, the kids are really getting into Writer’s Workshop. Sadly, today we were not able to do the workshop because of our recycling conversations, and they were very upset! Over the past two weeks we have been working on personal narratives and how those types of stories only focus on the author’s life. The kids really enjoy writing about themselves and always want to share their stories. It has been very exciting to see their love of writing develop! Some are even writing during Free Choice time!
Selah is so excited to write during her Free Choice time!

We had an exciting day before and after school. The kids got their fair share of sweets today. This afternoon we celebrated September birhtdays in our classroom. Thank you to Jaiden’s dad for coming in to help bake! I know that Jaiden and Kristien really appreciated it. 🙂
Jaiden and Kristien we both so happy to pass out the cupcakes they made!
As if that was not enough, we had a wonderful Family Night tonight. Thank you for all who came! It was a good turn out of families who helped create some art work for our school. Each family was asked to create an image of their child with wire and beads. These images will be on display in the school in the near future. If you were not able to make if do not worry! We will have another one soon! Here are a few pictures from our first Family Night!
