Classroom Agreements

Today we had a great start to week two!  As a class, we talked about what we should be doing in our room.  It was a wonderful to hear all of the kids share their ideas on how we can work together.  Here is what we came up with:

1. Raise your hand

2. Listen when other friends are talking

3. Follow directions

4. Be kind to your friends

5. Keep your body to yourself

Over the next few days we will be talking about each one of these.  In addition, we will be writing class books that we can read over and over again to help us!  It is so great to see the kids take ownership over the room!

Writer’s Workshop, Reader’s Workshop, Free Choice, OH MY!

Take a peek at what we have done over the past two days!  As we start Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop the kids are really enjoying themselves!  They now come in asking to write books and reread books that we have read together.  In addition, I think their favorite time of the current day is Free Choice.  We have now opened up paint and it is the class favorite!

Painting away during our Free Choice Time at the end of the day.

The First Day!!

We had an exciting day in our classroom!  Today we did a little bit of everything.  We started Reader’s Workshop and Math Workshop.  The kids really enjoyed choosing their own books and exploring our materials.  Towards the end of the day we had Free Choice time where they got to explore the long awaited block area! Everyone was excited to play with the blocks and trains.  I am looking forward to tomorrow and all of the adventures we will have together.

Meet Mrs. Clark

Welcome to our classroom!  This is my second year of teaching, and I am very excited to be a teacher at school 60.  I graduated from Butler in 2010 with a degree in elementary education.  Last year I worked in a kindergarten classroom, and this year I am looking forward to working with kindergarten and first grade.  If I do not answer right away, it is because last year I was known as Miss Ryan.  This summer I married my high school sweetheart and went through the name change process. I am getting used to it now, but it may take a little time to really let it sink in.  I am from the south side of Indianapolis, but born in Cincinnati, Ohio.  We recently bought our first home in Broad Ripple, and we are excited to work on it!  As you will find out, I LOVE reading!  I have a slight obsession with books and you can see that as you walk into the classroom.   I am thrilled about our wonderful year ahead!

While our fun will start soon, there is one more important date to mark down.  Please remember August 4th.  We will be having our Back to School Night at 6:00pm.  We are looking forward to seeing you all very soon!
