Our first mystery reader is….

Mr. Smith! I told the children that someone had called me and left a message saying that they would be by at 3pm to read a story because they were a mystery reader! They were so excited to see who it was. At 3pm when Mr. Smith walked in, Malachi whispered to me “It’s Mr. Smith?|?|” They were so excited to be read to by him, and really did a nice job while he read Thundercake by Patricia Polacco.

I am excited to see their reactions as other people read to them throughout the rest of the year! Let me know if you are interested in doing it!

Partner Work

Last week, we started working in partners during Math Workshop.  We work in partners in Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop, but this is new for Math.  It has been wonderful to watch the kids talk with each other and share their ideas.  In the past, we have had time to share during our group time, but partner work only adds to that communication.  Now the kids can exchange ideas and explain their thinking even more!

Dorothy and Tyler are working together on their math problem.

Wyatt and David are working together on their math problem.

Mystery Readers and Chickens/Garden Summer Opportunity

I forgot to mention a couple of things in the previous post.  With us reading mysteries right now, I thought it would be fun to have a mystery reader each day (if possible) until the end of the school year.  We would do this whenever you would be available to come (or 3:00 if you are flexible).  I thought it would be fun if you were the mystery readers each day to read aloud a book to the class.  If you are interested in being a mystery reader (and mystery is important-not even your child can know!), let me know so we can set up a time!

We are looking for family’s to help take care of the garden and chickens this summer.  Your family could for one week take care of the chickens and the garden and in return take any eggs that are laid and enjoy the garden!  If you are interested, let me or Mrs. Argus know.

Thanks!
