After beating Bowling Green 75-63 in the first round, the Butler Women’s Basketball team took on in the Second Round of the WNIT on Monday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse falling, 62-51.
Riley Makalusky led the way for the Bulldogs with 14 points while Sydney Jaynes followed with 10 points. Mila Reynolds led the way for Purdue with 15 points and Jeanae Terry grabbed 12 rebounds for the Boilermakers
BU led 13-11 after the first quarter and went up 26-19 in the second quarter after scoring seven straight points. The first-half lead was fueled by Makalesky’s 12 first-half points, with the freshman scoring in a variety of ways.
The seven-point lead, Butler’s largest of the game, was cut short after Purdue’s 9-0 run that put the Boilers back in front. Purdue then used a 9-0 run to take a 31-28 lead at half
Purdue outscored Butler by nine in the third and continued to build the lead for Purdue.
Purdue led 51-39 heading into the fourth, but the Bulldogs continued to fight and got within four of Purdue with less than five minutes to play. The Bulldog’s late comeback attempt fell just short as Purdue ended the game on a 7-0 run. Butler ends the year at 15-17, improving from 11-19 a year ago, and 1-27 2 years ago.
