Placing Holds on Books

The Butler Libraries’ Catalog allows you to place a hold on any book that is currently checked out. This means that as soon as the book is returned we will “hold” the book for you and you will receive an automatic notification telling you it’s ready for check-out.

To place a hold on a book, check your due-dates, etc., just click on Library Catalog from the Libraries’ website. Once in the catalog just click on the “My Library Card” button and enter the required information.

Alternately, you can also submit a hold request from within a catalog record. To do so follow these easy steps:

1. Conduct a search in our catalog for a particular book or topic.

2. From the list of results click on the “check for copies” link.

3. Under the action column (right side of screen) click on the “Request” link.

As always you can still call either library and have staff place a hold on a book for you as well.

Digital Camera

All:

The digital camera is being stored
in the laptop cabinet. It can be checked out for 2 days.

Bear in mind that you may have to
charge it prior to use so plan accordingly.

If you need it longer than two days
just let someone in Circulation know and we’ll let you have it as long as you
need it.

Thanks,

-Brad

One of the two supporting hinges on
the North Library Door is completely sheared off.

Heather has an emergency work order
in.

In the meantime please use the
front door
until further notice.

In its present condition if someone
opens the door it could fall on them.

Thanks,

Brad

Laptops & Wireless Network

IR is still trying to work out the authentication issues that some students are having with our library laptops and the wireless network. In addition I’ve learned that they are having the same problem with the Butler-owened laptops for the pharmacy program.

The workaround (which we already knew about) is to plug the laptop into the Ethernet, log on, then unplug. After you do this the offending laptop will make the jump to wireless.

Circulation staff already issues Ethernet cords with our laptops.

However, I’ve had a few students come to Circulation with personal laptops and the same problem. I used the above procedure and was able to log them on to the wireless network.  So, if you get someone at the Reference Desk who can’t log-on to the wireless have them try the above procedure.

Chicago Tribune

FYI but the Tribune stopped delivering a paper copy of their paper to the library in about Mid-Februrary.

Virginia was looking into the matter. I’ve now been informed that they are once again going to start delivering a paper copy to the library.

Regardless, we now have a gap in coverage. As soon as we get the delivery problem straightened out I’m sure that Virginia will update the holdings to reflect what we actually have.

Anyhow, thought you’d like to know in case you get a patron who asks.
