The Butler Community now has access to The Chronicle from almost anywhere!
Anyone who has, or creates, a free Chronicle account using their Butler University email address now has 3 NEW WAYS to access Chronicle content.
- From your iPad — Download The Chronicle’s iPad editions at no cost to the individual. You can download either or both sections of The Chronicle.
- From your smart phone or tablet using the device’s Web browser. The new mobile interface makes The Chronicle easy to read when one is on the go.
- From any computer, from any location in the world — Direct access to Chronicle.com from any remote location without having to go through a proxy server. This should be very appealing to those who read Academe Today or any of our other e-newsletters from locations off campus.
To take advantage of your domain access, all that is required is for an authorized user to have a free Chronicle account using their university email address. A Chronicle account can be created by going to Chronicle.com and clicking on the “create” link at top, right hand side of Web page.
The Butler Libraries have updated their list of databases that have mobile-friendly access. Almost all of the EBSCO databases have mobile versions of their search pages, but many new databases have joined them.
Some of the additions include:
- American Chemical Society
- JSTOR
- PubMed
- RILM
- Web of Science (Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science Citation Indexes)
- WorldCat
Use any of our database lists (http://www.butler.edu/library/research/databases/) and click the mobile icon next to the database name. Most of these links go directly to the mobile version of the database, but several take you to the page that has links to download the apps for that database.
Butler has a free trial to the complete Cambridge Histories Online through the end of March 2012.

If you will be traveling to another country this summer, we recommend you check out Global Road Warrior, one of the Butler Libraries’ subscription databases.
You will find cultural, economic, and travel information on over 170 countries, including such handy information as visa requirements, how to tip, health advisories, cultural stereotypes, how to get Internet access, and advice for women traveling alone.
Use your Butler login information to access the database from off campus (and around the world).
If you are trying to use a library database and getting a red screen with an error saying:
The site’s security certificate has expired!
we are aware of the problem. It is perfectly safe to click “Proceed Anyway” and use the databases. We are working to get the security certificate renewed so this error disappears.
NOTE: This problem has been fixed!
