Librarians:
At the behest of Lewis, the Reference Dept. has recently conducted some
intensive collection development–including location transfers and a
few cancellations.
Related to this is Scott’s usage study of all reference books.
The eventual goal for these endeavors is to create a collection of
essential reference titles, thus freeing up shelf space. This, in
turn, may lead to more overall space which will allow us to add
additional workstations and study space.
So, we please ask that you DO NOT re-shelve any reference books. Someone in Reference will do this after having scanned them into the tracking database.
In addition, many titles are now in Technical Services waiting to
be processed. However, there are other projects ahead of ours so it may
be a month or so before Technical Services is able to process these changes.
In the meantime, if you are looking for a reference book and it’s not
on the shelf, there’s a good chance it’s on a cart in Technical
Services (despite what the catalog says). So, you may have to call upstairs or physically walk up there
and check for yourself.
If you have any questions please ask someone in Reference.

The Career SRG has been updated to include the majority of career books in the library collection. You can access it here:
http://www.butler.edu/library/research/srg/career.html
Please pay particular attention to the locations. Many of the titles
are now in the general collection which means students can now check
them out.

Librarians –
Despite the delay in implementing our new Content Management System, Friday August 12 is still the deadline for all changes/editions to the Subject
Resource Guides (print and online).
Please get all changes/editions, etc., to me by August 12 in your preferred
format (i.e., print, electronic).
Thanks!
Brad
For those of you who haven’t heard yet, the move of the library
website to the new Content Management System has been delayed. Due to
circumstances beyond our control, we will be waiting until January 2006
to release the new design of the library website, which will use the
Content Management System that all of the Butler websites will be
moving to.
For this fall, we will be merely making some minor adjustments to
the existing website and adding links to the blog (DawgBlog) and the
wiki (Butler_WikiRef). Your “normal ways” of getting to things on the
website will not be changing.
Thank you for your patience and your feedback.
Scott
Librarians –
I’m going
to set Friday August 12 as the deadline for all changes/editions to the Subject
Resource Guides (print and online).
This year
my completion of the updates is tied to the new content management system® and
our new web presence. So, hopefully
these projects will be resolved soon.
However,
due to the uncertainty that surrounds these projects, there is a small chance
that everything will not be updated before the semester starts. If this is the
case I’ll likely work on those SRGs that are used by librarians for instruction
and then update the rest.
If you have
any changes/editions, etc., please get them to me by August 12 in your preferred
format (i.e., print, electronic).
Thanks!
Brad
