4. Taking Quizzes

InformationMoodle allows your instructors to build quizzes that you take online. These quizzes can be comprised of anything from basic multiple choice or true/false questions to essay or calculated numerical questions. Your instructor may also establish a time limit on a quiz past which you cannot continue.

  1. From the course page, click on the quiz (Quiz icon) to go to its summary page.
  2. You will see the number of Attempts allowed: and the Time limit: (if there is one). There will also be instructions if your instructor has provided any. Click the Attempt quiz now button to begin.
  3. You will be shown a confirmation window to confirm the number of attempts allowed and the time limit. Click Start attempt to proceed to the quiz.
  4. You will come to a page of one or more questions. You may be asked to select answers from a list or directly input one into a text box. You can also click Flag question to mark a question to return to later. The Quiz navigation block in the upper left will show you a list of the questions on the quiz (including any that you’ve flagged) as well as the Time left.
  5. Click the Next button to proceed to the next page of questions. Once you proceed past the last page, you will be taken to the Summary of attempt. This page will show you questions for which there is an Answer saved, questions that are Not yet answered, and any question you have put a Flag on. Click Submit all and finish when done with the quiz.
  6. You will be shown a confirmation window to confirm that you are finished with the quiz. Click Submit all and finish to end the quiz attempt.
  7. Depending on whether your instructor has allowed for it, you will be taken to your quiz results. You will be shown the Time taken, your Grade, and any questions you have gotten right (Green check) or wrong (Red X). Click Finish review to return to the course page.

6. Viewing Grades

InformationIf they so choose, your instructors can post up-to-date grades on Moodle for you to access. You can view grades on individual items as well as your overall course total to date.

  1. On the course page, go to the Administration block and click Grades.
  2. You will see a list of each Grade item, the Grade you received for that item, the Range of points possible on that item, and the Percentage of that range you achieved. If your instructor has decided to provide a textual response to your work, that will appear in the Feedback field.
  3. If your instructors have created grade categories, your grades for those categories will appear in a Category total. Your overall grade for the course will similarly appear in the Course total.

5. Using Forums

InformationIn a forum, you can post comments to discussion topics that you or your instructor have started. Once a discussion is started, you and your instructor can both post responses to each other’s comments.

  2. You will see discussion topics listed along with the name of the person who started them, the number of replies there have been, and the time of last post. Click the topic’s name in the Discussion column to see the posts in that thread.
  3. Once viewing the discussion, you will see users’ individual posts. To reply to someone’s post, click the Reply link to the lower-right of the post.
  4. Enter a Subject and a Message. You can use the Subscription drop-down to select whether you’re notified about new posts in the discussion thread, and you can drag and drop files to the Attachment area to add them to the topic.
  5. Click Post to forum when done. You will have thirty minutes to edit your post.
  6. Your instructor may allow students to start their own discussion threads. If so, you can do so by clicking Add a new discussion topic and filling out the message the same way you would for an ordinary post.

You can filter the contents by selecting the  Filter by Term or Category drop down menu .  Only courses that you are an instructor in will appear for the filter you select.

Why are some of the courses in grey?
Courses that are in grey are not currently available to students.
