The Butler Women’s Softball team traveled to Georgetown this last weekend and took the series 2-1 by splitting a doubleheader on Saturday and finishing the series with a Sunday win.
After dropping the first game to the Hoyas 6-2, the Bulldogs took the next game into extra innings to split the BIG EAST doubleheader. Georgetown took a 3-0 lead early on in game two, but Butler responded in the fourth with Alyssa Lach’s solo homerun to start the inning. It wasn’t until the sixth inning when sophomore Payton Longest tripled to center field and scored off a sacrifice fly that the Bulldogs final tied the game. The score would go back and forth until the eighth inning when Madi Christiansen sent one over the center field wall to secure the lead for the Bulldogs. Gabbi Schnaiter closed the bottom of the eighth and recorded the save to win the second game 7-6.
On Sunday afternoon, the Bulldogs gave the fans a show after overcoming a 7-0 deficit to beat the Hoyas 13-9. After a brutal fourth inning, Butler bounced back and put up five runs on the board in the top of the fifth with RBIs from Jenna Foreman, Payton Longest, and Sarah Dixon. Trailing by three, the Bulldogs scored eight runs in the seventh with Kaitlin Doud highlighting the inning with her a two-run home run over the center field fence.
The Bulldogs improve to 5-4 in the conference and 15-21 overall. Butler will take a break from BIG EAST play to face Ball State on Wednesday at 4 PM.
