the moment
a story by [hailey]
Brittany and Emilia were two very different girls. One’s life was quite bright and the other’s not so much. One day Brittany was walking to school and she saw a girl about five feet tall, short brown hair with light brown streaks in it. She avoided her. The next day she saw her again. It was repeatedly, so one day she stopped and say hello, but Emilia just stared at her, so Brittany felt embarrassed. She walked off and then suddenly Emilia said “hi” in a whisper. Brittany kept walking. Later that day Brittany was walking home and saw Emilia and said “what’s your name?” she responded “Emilia.” Brittany asked why she was always outside and Emilia sat in silence and then she said “I don’t have a home like others do.” Brittany said “then how do you survive and live?” Emilia didn’t answer, so Brittany invited her over. When she got to Brittany’s house she was scared and nervous, but Brittany noticed she was dirty so she gave Emilia some clothes and told her she could use the shower. When it was nine Emilia left and Brittany’s mom questioned Brittany who she was talking to and Brittany said “a girl named Emilia.” Her mom was confused because she never saw anyone with Brittany. It was as if Brittany was talking to herself, so Brittany’s mom just ignored the situation.
The next day Emilia was waiting for Brittany outside. She wanted to walk with her to school, but when she arrived all her other friends gathered around Brittany and Emilia just vanished. Brittany was lost and searched the premises for Emilia, but didn’t see her so she went into school. When she was leaving school she went her regular way home, but this time Emilia wasn’t there. Brittany just thought she had left for a while. The next day she was looking for Emilia, but there was still no sign of her. She kept on waiting for Emilia, but couldn’t find her. A week passed by and there was a woman on the end of the street. She looked like she was looking for someone and she spoke to Brittany. She asked her if she saw a girl with short brown hair and Brittany immediately thought Emilia? And asked her if her name was Emilia. The woman said yes. She had a happy look in her face and then, when Brittany said she hadn’t seen her in a week, the woman began to look sad and worried. That’s when she asked “how did you know Emilia?” The woman said “that is my daughter. She left the house a long time ago. I been looking for her for three years.” Brittany instantly thought to herself what if she’s hurt or something? And so Brittany helped the woman search for her daughter.
Two months passed by and Brittany found Emilia, but she was different. She looked like she hadn’t eaten in weeks and Brittany brought Emilia home. When she got to Brittany’s house Britt’s mom was looking at Brittany in a weird way. She said “why are you talking to yourself?” She said “I’m not. this is Emilia.” Her mother was confused. What she was talking about? No one was there. Was Emilia just an illusion to Brittany? Brittany then tried to find the woman that was looking for Emilia, but couldn’t. She then looked up Emilia Garcia because her mother was acting unusual about the name Emilia and someone popped up that looked just like the girl she was talking to. She had died two years ago with her mother on the street that Brittany had seen her on. Brittany was so misunderstood. She tried to explain, but no one believed her. She was just a girl wondering why the world wasn’t listening to her. Then she went home, went in the bathroom, and killed herself. The End.
