Blue, I am a Butler alumna and my husband (a reformed IU fan and alumnus who now wholeheartedly roots for Butler) and I have watched you, loved you, and relished in your dedication to BU for years. As a Butler grad, I am so incredibly grateful for your dedication to Butler over the years and for exemplifying the Butler Way in everything you did. The country and, indeed, world saw that and we ow…

I’ll never forget the first time I met Blue II. I almost tripped over him. I was on campus the summer between my junior and senior years doing research as part of the Butler Summer Institute. As I was walking to work one morning, I stopped off at C-Club in the basement of Atherton Union to buy a candy bar. I wasn’t paying much attention while leaving the building a few minutes later, or I’d…

I was so fortunate to have crossed paths with Blue II several times. My favorite was bringing my sons to campus and visiting with not only him, but his new baby brother, Trip. The few minutes I sat on the floor with Blue, giving him an extended ear-rub while everyone “ooh’d & ahhh’d” over Trip were so awesome, and an experience I will never forget. Blue was truly Top Dog for so many, within…

Tabby Ramsey

My favorite Blue memory has to be the time that I was walking between classes and saw Blue trotting along, apparently unattended. Michael was not far behind, yelling, “Blue! Get back here!!” But Blue carried on along his set path, like he owned the place. Let’s be real, though. He did own the place.

Oh Blue. Your presence always put a smile on everyone’s face and joy in the hearts of those both young and old. In the Houston airport I remember hearing SWA employees talking to each other about how excited they were to have their picture taken with you. You were such a star! There is always deep sadness when there is the loss of greatness. And Blue II, you were a GREAT dog!! We will miss you.

I’m another person who was never lucky enough to meet Blue II in person, but grew to love him from afar via Twitter. I follow hundreds of entities on Twitter, but there are only two lists I check several times a day, every day — one of them is my Blue list. I would even say my mother became a fan of Butler basketball because I started sharing all of Blue’s tweets, pics and adventures with her.

Gina and Dillon MacIlwraith

I’ll admit that Gordon Hayward brought me to Butler but I’ve since learned he was just a conduit to the real thing:). Each night, Dillon (age 9) and I would read what you were up to that day before going to bed to make sure we would have laughter filled dreams. We especially leaned on you for a smile when our dogs – Gus and Cedar – died almost 2 years ago so I want Pops to know that we’r…

As a 1997 Butler graduate, I was so excited to have the honor of driving Blue II and his “Pops”, Michael Kaltenmark, in the 2011 500 Festival Parade. I will never forget the crowd yelling Blue’s name and cheering as we drove through the parade route. Sometimes Blue would bark back as the crowd cheered. I was so proud to be a Butler alumni. I have attached a photo from that day.

I was very sad…

I remember meeting Blue II when my daughter was a freshman. He was such a sweet and lovable dog and enjoyed all the attention people gave him. It made me feel better to leave my daughter on a campus where she would have a dog to love and where people loved dogs! Always enjoyed seeing him at basketball games and around campus and missed him when he wasn’t around when we visited. He was a great…
