MFA Program Welcomes New Students

New Butler MFA’s (“bulldog pups,” as nobody actually calls them) were welcomed to the next phase of their writing lives with an event at the Efroymson Center for Creative Writing. Young talent eager to begin their graduate writing careers nibbled hors d’oeuvres and enjoyed an array of complimentary adult beverages while alternately hiding from and casually trying to impress professors, alumni, and other Butler literati. As you’ll see from the images below, the tasteful bacchanal provided all who partook a welcome audit of the Butler MFA cast (and three different kinds of pita dip).

A Look Back on Butler’s Creative Writing Camp

With the K-12 school year kicking back into full swing, it’s a good time to look back on the fun we had in our Creative Writing Camp for students in grades 3-12. Held annually in two sessions (this year’s were from June 16th-20th and June 23rd-27th), the camp provides students the opportunity to engage their talents and passions for all things literary.

Writing Camp

This year’s camp took place on the Butler campus, and afforded students the opportunity to interact with accomplished novelists, poets, editors, and teachers of writing. With intensive support from these guests as well as Butler professors and MFA students, a bevy of readings and open mics, and a field trip to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, campers enjoyed a fun, educational environment filled with like-minded peers, outdoor time, and even a little (or a lot of) ice cream thrown in for good measure.

Butler’s Creative Writing Camp is offered every summer — if you’re interested, check out this website for more details.
