Bikes from Bike Share being donated to Red Bike and Green

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The Council on Presidential Affairs (CPA) is donating the bikes from the Student Government Association (SGA) Bike Share Program to Red Bike and Green. Red Bike and Green is a community-building collective organization seeking to create a relevant and sustainable bike culture among the African American community in Indianapolis.

The decision to donate the bikes was a collaborative decision between CPA and administration due to the lack of use of the program and student safety concerns.

“Unfortunately, the bikes purchased years ago were not of a high enough quality to sustain the program into the future,” said Austin Del Priore, Vice President of Administration for SGA. “We always want to be cognizant of the use of student funding, but we also want to ensure that the programs we offer are of the highest quality for students.”

CPA has already donated 50 bikes to Red Bike and Green and is currently coordinating a time to auction the remaining bikes. CPA is also working with Levester Johnson, Vice President of Student Affairs for Butler University, to auction the shed outside the Health and Recreation Complex that held the bikes to recover lost funding from the cancellation of the program.
