How do I get a class permission number for my advisee?

A class permission number is a number used for registering students in closed classes or where the student does not have
the prerequisites for a class. Class permission numbers are set up by the Office of Registration and Records and are managed by faculty and staff at the departmental or subject area level.

For specific information about who to contact in the various colleges, departments, or subject areas, visit the Office of Registration and Records’ web page, Permission Numbers and Enrollment Permission, for more information.

In general, to get a class permission number for your advisee, follow these steps:

  1. Contact the department that holds the class: call the secretary or the department head.
  2. Request a class permission number for the class. You will be subject to the area’s policy regarding closed classes and prerequisites.
  3. Give the class permission number to the student to use when enrolling in the class.

Tip: To see how a student uses a Class Permission Number, go to How do I use a Class Permission Number? in the student help topics.
