NO FEAR Gear: August 2012

So, summer is winding down and classes are starting up, but the weather is still nice (ok, a bit humid this year) and a majority of exercisers prefer to take their cardio or other training sessions outside.   There – you ran for 45 minutes, came in and lifted for 20, you’re done right?  Wrong!  Always, always, ALWAYS try to squeeze in a stretch session.  It’s not only a great way to wind down from a grueling workout but is vital for tissue recovery in the body (preventing later injury).  As a runner, I know after I log some miles the first thing I want to do is plop down on the couch.  But, I have to remind myself of the importance of stretching – and quite frankly, it can be hard to do with all of the summer activities with friends and family.

Therawheel

What is this?

There are many great stretches out there for optimal recovery, but a really great tool for self-myofascia release is the therawheel.  This tool was designed by Tom Jennings, MED ATC, owner of O’Fit studio in Indianapolis.  Here is a link I have posted for those of you more interested in the tool’s use and its benefits.

What is myofascia release and what good will it do for me?
