It flutters, it skips, it beats, it literally pumps (you up), helping your body perform essential functions often overlooked.  So, this month, I do not mean, get a hair-cut, some six-pack abs and a sleek Mercedes, but pay attention to that lovely little organ of yours.  It may be small, but it sure is mighty.  Especially with the highly-anticipated Valentine’s Day, remember to love someone special — YOURSELF.  And your heart is a wonderful place to start 🙂

Many lucky  individuals consider Heart Disease as something exclusive, but in all reality it does not discriminate.  In fact, it is the number one killer of Women.  However, it affects everyone in the United States greatly, killing one person every 34 seconds as stated by the American Heart Association.   Fortunately, the disease is preventable.  It is NEVER to early to take proactive meaures; our behaviors now could make or break one diagnosis.  Here some basic heart-healthy tips to follow:

1.  Keep a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains

2. Stay active

3. Know your genetic history

4. Try to avoid stress whenever possible, and of course smoking!
