When Push Comes to Shove… April and May Come Together for this Monthly Challenge

listen to your body

Your own voice can sometimes be the hardest to hear

Before I begin, let me APOLOGIZE for my MIA-ness.  Travels and studies have halted my posts for a few weeks (okay a month) and I’m so glad to finally get back to posting!!  Just before things start to pick up again (as my Easter travels are over and classes have resumed) I want to send out this message, not only to you guys but re-iterate it for myself when things get tough.  So things are wrapping up on both sides of the pond.  Right now, you guys are getting ready to enter finals, pack for home and maybe applying for jobs (if graduating, CONGRATS SENIORS!!); I am in my last week of official classes, preparing myself for what is known as the “Exam Period” during the entire month of May.  Yikes.  However, I have travels to Italy and Paris awaiting me in June, helping me stay (somewhat) motivated.  Then, it’s Indiana-bound for this Bulldawg!

Anyway, life can get pretty demanding before we again enter that “Ah, I did it” stage. There is so much emphasis on push — push to study for another hour, push to complete those final reps, push to stay awake when you feel like crashing on the last paragraph of that paper, push yourself to put up with your roomate for one more week (hope this isn’t the case).  However, when push comes to shove, you get, well, shoved.  There is only so much you can do when at some point your body, mentally and physically will surrender, totallly eliminating the drive you had in the beginning.  More importantly, it will be very hard to find that same drive again.

Therefore, (these two) months, I am challenging you to embrace, but not squeeze or obsess over your challenges.  Listen to your body, your brain, your heart.  Take a SMALL amount of time — can be as little as five minutes and dedicate it  to YOU.  Draw, meditate, read something happy, listen to a piece of music.  Remember no matter what happens — whether you ace or bomb a test, whether you’re at BU or back at home — you are YOU. So, for this month, the challenge is short and sweet, but not necessarily simple.  Why does it seem we can give our advice so easily but taking it ourselves remains such a hard pill to swallow?  Believe me, this a challenge for me as well.   However, together, let us realize what we CAN do (easier part) and accept the fact that it is good enough (harder part).  You just might be pleasantly surprised at what you can accomplish.  Finish strong Bulldogs, but don’t forget to take this whole experience in!!!

Confidence is key

Walkin out of that O-Chem final…
